The Biometrics Institute is an independent not-for-profit membership organisation, founded in October 2001 in Australia with funding from the Australian government.The mission of the Biometrics Institute is to be a forum for biometric users and other interested parties and to facilitate the responsible use of biometrics.

Its primary members are government and business users of biometric services and products, with other membership categories for vendors. To date we have over 100  members organisations in the public and private sector from Australia, New Zealand and some overseas organisations.

It has developed a Privacy Code which now forms part of the Australian Privacy Legislation and is currently working on a Biometric Vulnerability Assessment Methodology. Both projects are government funded.

Brand Protection Council

The BPCouncil is a dynamic virtual community dedicated to brand protection and intellectual property professionals addressing the wide spectrum of brand protection and intellectual property issues; technology, legal developments, market leaders, news and more.

BPMembers have access to the diverse host of BPResources including networking tools, comprehensive directories, glossary, calendar, market leader profiles, news, blogs, forums, webinars, podcasts and in depth stories.


The BPCouncil is a member of the BPIntelligroup.

The EBF’s mission is to establish the European Union as the World Leader in Biometrics Excellence by addressing barriers to adoption and fragmentation in the marketplace and by acting as the driving force for initiating, facilitating, supporting and organising activities that bring further the proper and beneficial use of biometrics within Europe and abroad. The forum is a multi stakeholder non-profit interest group incorporating companies, research agencies, policy makers and user groups.

The EBF is positioned as the European focal point for issues relating to biometric including standards, testing, certification, privacy, R&D, dissemination. The forum also acts as the driving force for coordination, support and strengthening of the national bodies.

Eurosmart is an international non-profit association located in Brussels and representing 25 companies of the smart security industry for multi-sectors applications.

Founded in 1995, the association is committed to expanding the world’s smart secure devices market, developing smart security standards and continuously improving quality and security applications.

Manufacturers of smart cards, semiconductors, terminals, equipment for smart cards system integrators, application developers and issuers gather and work into dedicated working groups on communication and marketing, security, electronic identity and new form factors, and prospect emerging markets.

Members are largely involved in political and technical initiatives as well as research and development projects at the European and international levels.
