Charles Simon
Charles Simon is responsible for the coordination of public policy for Verified Identity Pass (and its Clear® Registered Traveler program). He represents the company’s interests in the shaping of the voluntary credentialing industry. Mr. Simon is the primary point of contact for Congress, government agencies, trade groups and advocacy organizations.
Prior to joining Verified Identity Pass, Mr. Simon was Deputy Director of Criminal Justice for New York State. He designed and managed the launch of Operation IMPACT, a statewide strategic crime reduction initiative, and developed the multi-county Crimes Against Revenue Program.
Before his tenure with New York State, Mr. Simon served in several capacities with the United States Department of Justice. Mr. Simon was Deputy Associate Attorney General in Washington, DC, where he provided departmental leadership for the multi-agency Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative, and served as chair of the Strategic Approaches to Community Safety Initiative. Then, Mr. Simon was an Assistant United States Attorney, as well as the Coordinator of Crime Control Strategies, in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan. There, Mr. Simon prosecuted gun, narcotics and fraud crimes, among others, Mr. Simon also managed the multi-agency “Weed and Seed” initiative, which integrated federal, state and local enforcement and crime prevention efforts in various counties.
After receiving his JD from the University of Chicago Law School in 1992, Mr. Simon served as an associate with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and Paris. There, Mr. Simon primarily handled corporate transactional matters, involving securities, banking, as well as mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Simon represented both domestic and foreign clients. Mr. Simon received a BA in English from Yale College in 1988.
